The dispute between the Merchant Service Guild and .members of the Shipowners Federation, having vessels registered here, came before the Conciliation Council to-day. The Guild asked that masters and ! officers be paid at . the following j rates: For yes .els of 1000 gross tonnage and under :— Masfter., £28 per month; chief officer, £18; second officer £14; -third officer £12; every master and officer to he entitled to leave of absence on full sea pay, a master for continuous period of 28 days and officers fourteen. * The conditions also provide for ! overtime. It is argued on behalf of the Federation that the latter body was unable to agree to the award coveringofficers and masters. Mr Pryor*' stated that the ' owners could discuss the claims if the masters and .the men were considered jointly. Captain Watson, for the Guild, said he could not deal with the officers separately. He added that the Union Coy had agreed to meet the Guild as far as possible in its claim. INo settlement was arrived at and both parties agreed to refer the dis- j putc to the Arbitration Court. j
