PROVINCIAL JEALOUSY

DUNEIDIN IN A HUFF. (By Telegraph— Per Press Association) WELLINGTON April 10. iln reference to the "hostile criticism of the action of 'Messrs Marryat and Pollock, in supporting Wellington as the place for holding- the Australasian Atheltic Ch.'ampionships,, they, state that in spite of the resolution revoking their appointment to the Council, they remain Otagio's reps until such rtime as their successors are appointed. The rules provide that members elected to the Council shall be elected at annual meetings of centres. Therefore they claim they must remain members of the Council till Otago centres, at its annual meeting, shall .appoint other delegates. The New Zealand Associations rules do not permit of centres revoking an appointment of delegates. They hold that in the matter of selection of the place tor the championship meeting-, members of the Council are entitled to exercise freedom of choice. Ht is not a, matter to •be decided by a vote of centres, and is expressly set down as one for the decision of the Council. They were in possession of evidence, which showed that Wellington was undoubtedly ithe mosi desirable place to hold 'this giatherm'g-, and they claim that they could not have disregarded this evidence, without doing grave injury to the general management of amateur athletics m the Dominion. Even tne members -who voted in favour of Dunedin, at the (Council meeting, admitted that < on their merits, ithe ' arguments in favour pf Wellington were unanswerable. Messrs iMarryait and Polock hold that the Council is not a sub-commit-tee of centres, but *i body vested with discretionary powers, which it would be disastrous to take away from it.
