Donedin, Nov. 26. Six cases of scarlet fever are reported by the Health Officer in one house ; every exertion is being made to isolate the persons attacked. At the adjourned meeting of the Titanic Iron Company's shareholders in New Plymouth, held last night, Ihe committee brought up a report on the charges preferred by Matheson against the directors. Thecommitteereportthattheybelieve that machinery which cost L 4 10s per ton forwarding here, could have been brought here for Ll 10s per ton, and landed and placed at the Company's works for another 353 per ton. Compound bricks had been made at L 4 10a per thousand, whilst another tender was sent at L 2 16s. From Is 6d to 2s per cubic yard had been given for excavation, whilst the Provincial Government and private persons were giving; from B|d to lOd. Whatton waa retained at L 4 per week after the appointment of Dairoch as manager at L 5 per week. The machinery they consider could have been erected by an engineer and assistant and two laborers in eight or ten days, whilst Jack has been engaged on it eight or ten months at L 5 a week, and the work not finished. There wa3 only about five hundred bushels of charcoal on hand, whereas there should have ;been three months supply to prevent a disastrous result. The committee BUggest that the blowing in of the, surface be delayed till a thoroughly practical man is placed in charge ; also, that the managing director should be a resident here. Several of the shareholders endorsed the statements that were in the report, and brought forward proofs. Smith explained his connection with the company, and in answer to a question why he was dismissed, said it was simply because he would work for the shareholders instead of the contractors, and because he would not be a party to the extravagance shewn in the report the directors dismissed him. A copy of ;the report is to be forwarded to the directors. Mr Travers's address to the Wellington electors is published this morning. He opposes the continuance of Provincialism and the dismemberment of the Colony. The Times declares for Messrs Pearce and Hunter as against Messrs Gisborne and Travers. It is announced that after the 4th of December the name of the Tribune will be the Evening Argus, and the firm Messrs Gillon, Kent, and W«toro. Grahamstown, Nov. 26. Mr William Row has announced his intention of contesting the seat for the Thames. Sir George Grey it is said will apcept the requisition from here. It is reported that Mr James Mackay will not stand.
