CORONER'S JURIES' JUSTICE.
[to the editor.] Sir— ln yourpaper of to-day isjanaccount of an inquest held in Hokitika on the body of a woman named Elizabeth Bryant. I wish to know if the law permits the person who helped to kill this woman tp ' go free. The facts are plain and horrible. A drunken woman goes into a public house at 10 o'clock at night; is given three glasses of brandy and one of sherry ; becomes incapable in addition to being drunk ; is put to bed on the floor, and die 3in the night. I have heard that it is againat the law for a publican to give drink to one who is intoxicated. Perhaps you will kindly inform me if it i 5 .... But whether lawful or not, 1 maintain that such a case calls for some expression of righteous indignation. In some parts of America such a man would be punished summarily. After the publican, the jury who gave such a mild verdict should be punisherf. ' lam, &c, Inpionanx.
