At the Resident Magistrate's Court, yesterday, Mary Ellen Stock was fined 5s for being drunk, and 10s for using insulting and abusive language. She took the alternative of three days' imprisonment. Ann Jardan, charged with assaulting Louisa Williams, , was fined LI, with 11s 6d costs, with the , alternative of a week's imprisonment. We learn from a telegram received yes'teri day from tke member for the Grey Valley, that a thrice weekly mail service to and , from Reefton will commence on the Ist of October. The funeral of Mr E. B. Fox takes place ! to-morrow afternoon. Members of tne Greyi mouth Masonic Lodges are summoned to : attend at the Hall at half-past one, and others of the brotherhood are invited to , attend. Doubtless there will also be a large attendance of the -friends of the deceased, and of the inhabitants generally. At a meeting of Directors of the Grey District Building Society, held on Tuesday last, it was decided to declare a dividend of 9 per cent, with a bonus of 1 per cent added on the paid-up shares, and to credit proportion-, ate profits to the terminating shares for class B. It was also resolved to hold the monthly pay meetings in future on the first Friday in every month, commencing with Friday, the 3rd of September next. Mr William Todd, of Hokitika, sold Mr Cornish's brewery and dwelling house, at Koss, in one lot, on Wednesday, forLßso. Mr D. Culleu was the purchaser. In the Hokitika Borough Council, notice of the following motion has been given : — " That the members of the district in the House of Assembly be requested to endeavor to have Municipal Councils placed on a par with Eoad Boards and Shire Councils, as regards revenue from sales of land within Municipal boundaries, in the new Bill before Parliament." A public meeting on the question of Abolition of Provinces was to be held at Owen's Hotel, Stafford, last evening, and at the Oddfellows' Hall, Goldsborough, another meeting is to be held this evening. A private telegram from Christchurch states that Mr Templeton, formerly of Hokitika, was found dead in a paddock on Tuesday evening. We have much pleasure in calling attention to Smith and Barkley's splendid stock of blue Venetians, blue Victoria twills, blue diagonals, and waterproof tweeds in all the newest shades, suitable for ladies' dresses and costumes ; also a large stock of heavy blue and black cloths for jackets, and a lot of mantlings in new colors.
