[to the editor.] Sir, — I see in your advertising columns this morning;, a letter appeared signed by Frank Simpson, stating that Edward Drummond, manager of works, had cautioned the writer against using the tram crossings, as they had' always been unsafe. I think this statement, which is contrary to the evidence given by Drummond in the witness-box, as also a meeting of carters to be held this evening on the same subject, come with a very bad grace at this time, for whether this statement and meeting referred to, are sincere or agitated by the plaintiff in the above case, they might have an inflnence on the verdict not yet given, if a jury were concerned in giving the same. Fortunately, however, the case is now in the hands of one who thoroughly comprehends the whole of it, and who is not likely to be biased by the ex parte statements of a few interested individuals. I am, &c, R. J. Johnston, Town Surveyor. Greymouth, November 19.
