ANGLO-AUSTRALIAN PRESS TELEGRAPH AGENCY.
Wellington, Sept. 3. This Agency is authorised to state that the statemeuts which have appeared as to what took place or transpired in the conversation between Mr Stafford and Mr Yogel are altogether incorrect. Mr Yogel is going to Sydney about the electric telegraph cable, not about the San Francisco service. Mr Russell is being entrusted with negotiating the latter affair. The p.s. Charles Edward arrived to-day with the deputation to wait on the Government in reference to the proposed harbor works. Messrs Lahaian and Harrison have been awaiting their arrival. The report of Atkinson's becoming a member of the Ministry is confirmed. Nelson, Sept. 3. Mr D." M. Luckie, M.H.R., addressed a large meeting of his constituents last night. He principally dwelt on the abolition of Provinces question, and said it was a mistake that all the Provinces were not swept away. He referred to the system of Provincial finance in Auckland and Wellington as extremely rotten and calling for the interference of the General Government. References to the abolition question were received with cheers. A unanimous vote of confidence was passed. Lyttelton, Sept. 3. Arrived last night — Carisbrooke Castle, 90 days from Start Point. She brings 450 immigrants, all well. Twenty-five deaths of children under five years of age and five births occurred during the passage out.
