Nelson, May 18.
Mr Ivess moved to-night to repeal the Executive Ordinance, in order that the powers held by this Superintendent of kelson under the Goldfields Act should be delegated to an Executive. ■[ ; The Provincial Secretary moved an opposite motion.
Mr Shapter, a gold-fields' representative, warmly supported the motion, and advanced arguments in' favor.
Mr Donne moved an adjournment of the debate. : , -•■
A majority will likely be obtained favorable to responsible government.
In reply to a question by Mr Maguire, it wa^ stated it was proposed to make the following reductions in clause 11 of the Gold-mining Regulations, which would be gazetted shortly : — • Registration of extended and prospecting claims, from 10* to 5s ; residence areas, special : sites, protection of hut or building, from 5s to 2s 6d ; other registration fees not specified in the regulations, from 2s 6d to Is.
Forty pounds were voted for extinguishing the burning coal-seam at Ten-mile, Cobden district. .
