■ Melbourne. — The Argus, of the 11th instant, reports : — : In the import markets, a moderate amount of business has been transacted, though tbe heavier purchasers show little desire to operate very extensively. For trade purposes the demand is sluggish, much slower indeed than usual at this season of the year. In breadstuff's, we note an improved inquiry for flour in parcels, a couple of lines having changed hands for shipment, one of 100 tons at Ll2 12s Gd, and one of 50 tons at Ll2 15s net. Bakers' lots are in fair request at Ll3 78 6d to Ll3 10s Wheat is very scarce ; there is nothing whatever offering privately, and under the hammer only a few small lots . of ordinary brought 5s 4d. Good to besb samples are saleable at 5s Gd to 5s Sd. Oats are likewise wanted. Publicly about 1000" bushels were quitted at 4s 9d to 4s 9£d, and •by private contract 700 bags common feeding _s>iiaps«tl"lian*l<» at-- i« _s<L-*o_4s-B_d_:_. maize is. /Still very Orm, with arising tendency. W« hear of 900 bags having been quitted at 4s ■'9£d to'4s lOd. Sugars are moving off to a ' fair extent; ; 1662 packages Queensland grown, were got rid of under the hammer, when grey refining sorts realised L 24, and medium grainy counters were disposed of 31s 9d. Medium to good grainy yellow Mauritius at ' same time realised from 31s 6d to 33s 6d. .Teas are in moderate request for actual trade purposes, but we hear of no large lines being .taken up. Chests and half-chests have been placed at prices rising from Is Id for common to Is 6d for medium. Flowers of sulphur have been attracting attention of late. Sales have been making, and the price ha 3 been run up to Lls 15s to LI 6. In liquids, we hear of the quittance of 2000 cases Hennessy's brandy at 295.
