Eight men who came ashore yesterday report in town to-day that four others wanted to lay complaints before the Magistrate, but that the captain refused them leave. The police went on board to-day, and found that such was the case. They took their names, and will send for them to-morrow. Captain Flian tried to prevent the police from going on board. ' Great indignation has been expressed regarding a report that the first mate, committed by the Governor, will be sent to America in the Tapscott. Last night's Gazette notifies that Government insurance and annuities offices are opened at Motueka and Ahaura. Sundry polling-places in the Province of Nelson have been abolished and others appointed. Mr Lowther Broad is appointed Returning Officer in the Provincial elections tor Waimea South; Mr Qharles Broad for theßuller and Inangahua ; Dr Joseph Giles, for Westport; Mr Caleb Whitefoord, for Grey and Cobden ; and Mr Mr Joseph Foord Wilson, for Motueka. Christohtjrch, Oct. 10. National Insurance shares are in great favor here. 15s premium is offered. Walter Taylor, jockey, aged 28, died in the hospital to-day from inflammation of the lungs, caughjt while riding at the Geraldine races on September 21st.
