APOLOGY.
To the Directors op " The Greymouth Coal-mining Company (Limited)." Gentlemen,-— ln a letter written by me, and appearing in the columns of the Nelson Examiner on the 24th May, 1873, there are the following statements, namely : — "It is true that an attempt i 3 being made to float a bubble company to work the supposed coal-seam on the south side of the river, but the prospects are not over bright." . . . " I have called this a bubble company, for it has been got up with the'sole object of influencing the Government to make the railway on the south side of the river, and to me it seems the reverse of creditable that a false flan of the Brunner Coal-mine should be sent to the General Government likewise to influence them." These statements, which bore reference to "The Greymouth Coal-mining Company (Limited)," 1 admit to have been untrue, and I now retract them, and express my regret for their publication. I am, gentlemen, Your obedient servant, Robt. Ray. Cobden, 29th August, 1873.
