This meeting was held on Saturday last, and appears to have passed oft successfully. The following are the events : — One and Half Mile Handicap, of 10 soys. Septimus (Morgan) 1 .Garryow.en ... ... ... (Barton) 2 Six horses, came to the post for this race and a good start was effected, Sandy leading for the first half-mile and making the pace very hot. Septimus and Garryowen came up behind, but at the last quarter of a mile they both came to the front, and after a good race up the straight running, Septimus ran in first, Garryowen taking a good second place. Betting even, both on Septimus and Garryowen. Arahura Handicap, of 25 soys. Distance, two miles. Lacenfeed ' ... (Morgan) 1 Septimus (Cochrane) 2 Garryowen ... ... ... (Barton) 3 This, as we stated in our introductory remarks, was the race of the day, Lacenfeed winning by little more than a nose. There was great excitement about the race as it neared its close, and when Lacenfeed pushed forward a winner the shouts were deafening. Betting at starting was even against Lacenfeed and Septimus, 2 to 1 being laid against Garryowen. Maori Hack Race of 4 soys. One mile heats. Post entry. Woodstock „, „; ,„ 1 •
