THE TRUCK SYSTEM.

[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir— ln reply to a letter in this morning's issue of your paper, signed by Mr Maurice O'Connor, in yrhich he denied the statements I made at a public meeting, held at the Town Hall last Friday evening, at the same time trying ' to asperse my character, I challenge him, or any other contractor of his class,! to meet me at a public meeting at the Town Hall, or any other public room in Greymouth, on Tuesday or Wednesday evening next, when I will undertake to prove any statements I have made, and also to prove that two-thirds of the contracts on the Arnold road were paid by tucker and tools, thereby putting contractors of principle out of the field. With regard to the letter signed "One of the Discharged," lam convinced that it was written by the same person, viz., Maurice O'Connor. With respect to the charge he makes against me as an agitator, I admit . that I have always stood forward and advocated the rights of my fellow working men, but I can say most emphatically that I never did so for the purpose of reaping any personal benefit, neither have I ever agitated upon anything touching nationality, biit simply for the good of the class to which I belong, independent of country or creed.
