C 2 Hack Race, of 15 soys ; 1 mile heats ; second horse in the deciding heat to xeceive 3 soys from the stake ; minimum weight, 83t ; entrance. 1 soy ; post entries. It is expected that a good field of hacks will be nominated, as there are several in the district of no mean pretensions to racing ability, but as it is a post entry race the number will not be known until the starter lowers his flag. For the next event three entries were received, much less than was at one time expected. Two of these three we suppose will start, as Defamation can only have been entered 10 make up the race. When it was first proposed, in drafting the programme, there was every probability of a field of five, namely, Saudy, Defamation, Ronald, Septimus, and Lacenfeed. Misfortune however, seems to have pursued the local owners, and the present event will be reduced to a match between the Ahaura competitors, Septimus aud Lacenfeed. Thk District Plate, Of 50 soys j open to all horses the property of bona fide residents in the Nelson South West or Westland Goldfields, prior to the Ist January, 1873, and also owners from same date of horses entered by them; weight for age j \h miles j entrance, 5 soys. Mr Skelton's gr g Septimus Mr Mower's eh m Defamation Mr Carroll's eh m Lacenfeed The above programme promises a good amount of sport, and should satisfy all parties. The course is in magnificent condition, and the Stewards have worked with a will in completing all their arrangements. The weather is ail that can be desired, and the conveyances to the course are numerous, while the fare is as moderate as can well be imagined.
