NEW QUARTZ DISCOVERY AT THE MOKIHINUI.
[WBSXPORT TIMES.] A reef 6ft to 7ft wide, and already traced for a distance of one mile, bis beeu discovered by prospectors in the Mokihi. nurdistrict, and application was made on Wednesday for* a lease. The discoverers have been prospecting in the Mokihimn district for some weeks past, and the reef now found is some 20 miles up the river in the direction of the Lyell. The specimens of stone .brought therefrom- areslightly crystallised, and : show good gold throughout. The following particulars I of the locality are stated in the application : — - ■ Application is made by George Perotti and party, of the Kawatiri Hotel, Westport, and of Mokihinui, under the designation of the Halcyon Quartz Mining Company, with a statod capital of LISOO. They apply, under Section XII. of the Goldfields Act, for a special claim 1800 ft by 600 ft, to be held under lease for 15 years; the claim being situated about 22 miles up the Mokihinui River, near Maori Creek, and half a nute a bove the junction of the crwk and riven The
special area is asked for on account of the extreme difficulty of reaching the ground. We hear that the Warden will recommend the scanting of a lease of 24 acres. Two other prospectors, the brothers Walla, nophews of the well-known Reuben Waite, are about to attempt to strike the Mokihinui from the Lyell side of the range. ___^_
