GREY RIVER HOSPITAL,

A meeting, numerously attended by miners from all parts of the extensive district of Nelson Creek, was held at Claughessy's Hotel, Hatters' Terrace, on the evening of Saturday, 30th November. The meeting was called by public notice • for the purpose of electing a local committee for the ensuing year to co-operate with the central committee of management of the Greymouth General Hospital. Mr Frederick Davis was called to the chair. . . The Chairman briefly explained the objects of the meeting, and read extracts from the annual report of the Greymouth committee ; also the list of subscriptions collected in the Nelson Creek district. The members of the retiring, committee formally tendered their resignations, which were accepted after discussion. It was suggested that as the duties of the late committee were performed so effectually, it would be paying a graceful compliment to the members of it by reelecting them in a body. This course was objected to by Messrs Ellis, Dawson, and others of the retiring committee, not, as they said, because they were unwilling to perform the duties of the office, but these continual re-elections implied a scarcity of competent men among the subscribers willing to undertake the responsibilities of commit teemen'. It was also stated that the election of a new committee best served the interests of the institution by extending the basis of that sympathy on whlcrr 'tlie ariccess o£ tHe Hospital in a great measure depended. The following gentlemen were then unanimously elected a committee for the ensuing year '.—Messrs David Kerr, Jas. Hicks, John M'Entee, with Messrs Thos. Pretty john and James Sinclair as treasurer and secretary. . • : Votes of thanks to the retiring committee and to the Chairman of the meeting terminated the proceedings.
