CRICKET.
The opening match of the cricket season in Greymouth was played on Saturday afternoon in the Camp Reserve, between two teams chosen by Messrs A. R. Guinness and Dan Twohill. There was a good attendance of players, and, although the ground was not in 1 , first-class condition, the game seemed to<afford a largo amount of exercise and pleasure to those who engaged in it, and, pleasure, without exercise, to r those who were spectators. Several well-known players were conspicnoijs by their absence, but this was probably attributable to the fineness of the afternoon, which induced many to leave town and to . enjoy the superior pleasure of (in solitude or otherwise) perambulating the sea-beach. The following are the names of the players and the number of runs made by each : — GUINNESS's SIDE. A, R. Guinness, b Twohill ... 10 Scanlon, run out! 3 Brunn, b Twohill '.; ... J3.
