The, Emperor of Russia and the Grand
Duke of Vladimer arrived at Berlin on the sth September. They were met by the Emperor and Prince Frederick William, a large number of other German Princes, and the Ministers, with Chancellor Bismarck at their head. The most famous generals of the Army and the chief dignitaries of the Imperial Court were also present. The Czar, on alighting, saluted and embraced the Emperor in the most cordial manner. The two Emperors entered the same carriage, which pas sed slowly through the streets, amid the cheers of an immense multitude. The Imperial carriage stopped at the Russian Embassy, into which the Emperor Alexander was conducted, when he was visited by the Empress Augusta and Princess Victoria, wife of the Crown Prince. Later in the day, the Czar proceeded to the Imperial Court, where he was received and entertained by the Emperor William. After making quite a long visit, the Czar returned to the Embassy. The Emperor of Austria met with a most enthusiastic reception from the people in his progress through Germany. He arrived at Berlin on the evening of 9th Sept. There were precisely the same ceremonies as were accorded to the Czar. As the two German Emperors rode side by side through the streets, the popular enthusiasm was even greater than the day before. At the evening Court dinner given at the Imperial Palace, the Emperor William gave the toast, Guests." The Emperor of Austria proposed the health of the German Emperor and family. The Czar's toast was, "To valiant Germans." The festivities terminated in a monster torchlight procession and the playing of the Russian tatoo by eleven hundred and twenty-four musicians. The Czar made Princes Frederick Charles and Frederick "Henry Albert Field Marshals of the Russian Army. Gortschakoff had a long conference with Bismarck. Serious riots have occurred in Rhenish Prussia, a strong attempt being made to enforce the'expulsion of the Jesuits. The Government firmly suppressed the disturbance.
