[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] FIRE ON BOARD THE NEBRASKA. FIRE IN DUNEDIN. Wellington, Oct. 1. The callers and cabmen are out on strike. Many took licenses to-day. The trial of Pownall's flax-scraper has proved a fair success. Auckland, Oct. 1. | A fire occurred on board the Nebraska shortly after her arrival in harbor. Capt. Harding discovered* the fire, and it was extinguished before any damage was done. It was caused by ono of the stewards putting a lighted pipe amongst the bedclothes in hia berth. An information is to be laid against the s.s. Rangatira for not carrying lights. She nearly ran down another vessel. The Bulwark has arrived from London, 212 days out ; all well. Dunedin, Oct. 1. This morning a fire occurred, by which the granary of Duncan's flour-mill, at the Water of Leith, was destroyed ; also Well Park Brewery, adjoining. The mill was insured. The stock was not, and the loss is considerable. The origin of the fire is unknown. There are five criminal cases on the calendar for trial in the Supreme Court.
