To-day, Charles Sibree, alias " Yankee Charlie" was brought before the Resident Magistrate, charged with the murder of Thomas Costello on the 31st July. He was remanded till Wednesday. Dunedin, Sept. 2. Mr George Green, one of the earliest settlers in Otago, died on Saturday.
Arrived — Rangatira, from the North. At the Hoads — A steamer supposed to b» the Luna, from Wellington. Auckland, Sept. 2. The Thmaes Guardian is defunct. A boy named Walter Johnson has been drowned at Wairoa. Napier, Sept. 2. Bowe's House, Milton road, audits contents were burnt on Saturday. Hokitika, Sept. 2. At the Criminal Sessions to-day, John Smith, alias Harley, was sentenced to three years' penal servitude at Ross. He has been previously convicted. Arrived— Aborigine, from Melbourne.
