[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BROGDEN'S RAILWAY PROPOSALS. Wellington, August 1. The following is a summary of proposals made by Messrs Brogden to the Government for the construction of railways : — ' Two continuous lines to be constructed — one in the North Island from Wellington, via Wairarapa, the Manawatu Gorge, Wanganui, and Taranaki, with ultimate extension to join a line from Auckland, via Cambridge, the junction to be effected as soon as political circumstances will permit; the other line in the .Middle Island from Invercargill, via Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, and Christchurch to the Waiau, up that river to the Hope branch, and down by Ahaura to Greymouth, thence south to Ross, and north to Reefton, with ultimate extension to Nelson and Picton. The company to purchase all existing lines in both islands, including the Lyttelton and Christchurch line, at valuation not exceeding the original cost, and all plant at valuation. Provisions for further extension when required by the Government. The cost of the lines not to exceed LBOOO per mile, including rolling stock. Guarantee to be 5£ per cent, on capital expended for a period of 40 years. The Wellington cricketers wish to cooperate with Christchurch and Otago regarding the visit of the All-England Eleven.
