NO TOWN.

(from a correspondent.)

July 29.

Great surprise, and, some degree of dissatisfaction, were occasioned by the announcement that the Warden's Court for that: district was to be held only once a month, instead of fortnightly, as heretofore. In a migratory population such as the district possesses, this must lead to a vast amount of inconvenience, as neither business men or others can afford the loss of time and expense incurred by a journey of some sixteen miles to the Ahaura for the transaction of business such as daily arises in mining communities. If weekly Courts are held in the Ahaura, surely such a boon as fortnightly Courts would not be too much to be demanded by the inhabitants of this district, who contribute bo largely to the revenue. The time cannot be far distant when their worships the Wardens will be constrained to Btudy more the convenience and necessities of mining communities over which they preside, and follow less their own whims and phantasies. It may be intimated that considerable! hubbub— in fact, a perfect "storm in a teapot"— has arisen amo ng certain parties who felt aggrieved at the remarks of your correspondent in last week's issue. This reached a climax by an intimation received from more than one of your local Banks that no further cash advances would be made for the purpose of purchasing gold at L 3 163 3d per ounce, which will render it necessary for many of the large parcels being held over for private transmission, or to await a Government escort.

. The new National Schoolhouse, erected by public subcriptions upon a site presented by the Warden, being completed, was handed over to the committee by the contractor on Friday sennight, upon which occasion a concert and soiree dansaitte was held, at which some fifty or siity ladies, and gentlemen were: present, and did justice to the viands, which, it may be added, were provided gratuitously by the ladies of the township. The proceeds enabled the committee to liquidate their liabilities. The building is neat and unostentatious, and occupies a site near the Court House, and, with Mr Hughes's bridge and hotel and the new police residence, gives quite an improved appearance to the southern approach to the township. ;
