] GKEY RIVBB ARGUB Office, Friday evening. The amount of revenue received at the Cdstoma on goods passed for home consumption to-day was £12 Is 2d.

• Melbourne.— The Argv* of the 6th insr, reports: — ■ In the import markets business generally continues to maintain a quiet aspect. Breadstuffs still show considerable depression, flour being only moved off with great difh'» culty. For trade parcels, quotations, acoording to brand ranging from Ll6 to Ll6 10s, are obtained. There is no inquiry whatever for large lines. There is not much wheat offering, but so very little disposition is evinced by the millers to purchase at present, that it is difficult to get rid of even | what there is to be found. Oata are very firm, and shipments aa they come forward meet with a ready sale at prices rising from 2s lid to 3a 2J for feeding. Wo hear of the cargo of Tasmanian, ex Nautilus— about 700 bags -having been taken up in one line at within our quotations. Maize is selling readily at 3s Id for parcels. There is a fair supply, but holders do not press sales at the present unsatisfactory rates. A very much improved feeling seems to pervade sugars, and the impression now is gaining ground that much higher prices will rule, as the reduction of stocks in the hands of the trade going on rapidly must -. necessarily compel them to come forward more freely, were it only to supply; actual requirements. We | hear of sales of Mauritius at 38s, for fine yellow, and up to 41s 6d for low whites; 1200 mats Java grey crystals are also stated to have been placed at about 425. Further sales of Tasmanian hops are reported at our quotation of Is Bd, aud other transactions are pending. Malt is also inquired for at our quotation of 10s 3d to 10s 9d. One line of 3500 bushels was taken up at a very full price. For candles, a moderate inquiry is repotted, and sales are made at ll^d, up to 114 d being wanted according to brand.
