DISCOVERY OF WRECK ON THE WEST COAST.

Invekcarculi, June 20. A sealing party just returned from the West Coast to Riverton report that on the 17th April, at Looking-glass Bay, they found some pieces of kauri, red pine boards, and broken cases between Caswell and Thompson Sounds. They saw part of a vessel's bowsprit, and large quantities of ship's planking, broken cases, pieces of a boat, and the sea being smooth and clear, discovered in two fathoms of water books and papers. They recovered two bundles of papera and riles, an old illustrated family Bible, a pair of beadworked carpet slippers, a broken writing desk, a cheque book bearing date Nov., 1873. Mr O'Conor yesterday withdrew the action for conspiracy against the members of Council. He held a meeting on Monday night, and revelled in slanderous statements against the members of Council, from the Speaker downwards. He made various statements for the purpose of showing that the evidence was garbled and himself unjustly treated, and moved a motion to memorialise the Government for further inquiry. Mr Luckie supported the motion, and would produce further evidence to confirm the action of the Council and Committee, "and declared that the evidence was faithfully taken and the report justified. He protested against O'Conor holding a meeting while action was still pending. Mr Reid followed in the same strain, and the motion was agreed to. Mr O'Conor has since relinquished the Westport land and got back his money. , Chkistchurch, June 20. Brown withdrew his motion appointing the Superintendent, Chief of the Executive, governable by a majority of the Executive, and the Council has been prorogued. Auckland, June 20. An English company has offered to construct a railway from Point Russell to the Thames, and the offer has been forwarded to the Minister of Public Works. The terms are undisclosed. The South British Fire and Marine Insurance Company has issued a prospectus with a proposed capital of L 50,000, in 25,000 shares. It is intended as a sister institution to the New Zealand lusurance Company. The half-yearly meeting of the New' Zealand Insurance Company has been held. A dividend of 10 percent, was declared, and L 15,000 carried to the reinsurance fund, as well as L 20,167 carried to next year. Wanganui, June 20. A meeting is convened for Friday to fit out prospectors at the Tuha Gold Fields. Several diggers are in Wanjfuini awaiting the opportunity to proceed.
