Mr Clelland, a member of the overland telegraph construction party, reports the discovery in the northern territory of several ounces of gold, the result of one evening's digging ; and others confirm the information. Alluding to the manslaughter of the Chinaman Ah Suey, the Ovens Spectator ridicules the idea, promulgated by the Advertiser, that there is a secret organisation and tribunal among the Chinese in this colony for canyirig out laws of their own, and for the punishment of offenders against them. " There is nothing in the evidence in the case," the Sjicctator says, f'to support this farfetched idea, and having been for some years in a position in this colony which forced us into familiar relations with all classes of Chinese, we can safely say that we never observed the slightest trace of the organisation which some imaginative or enthusiastic policeman is now endeavoring to impress Upon the attention of i to.o credulous newspaper writers."
