The Arnold and Ahaura Road Bill has been referred to a Select Committee, with the object of including other portions of the trunk road, such as from Owen to the Lyell. i The land to be given in payment must be selected within two miles of the road, at LI per acre, but' the Bill cannot come into force till the period for the Governor's approval, or it otherwise lapses, namely, in three months. She left Sydney on the evening of the 16th. The City of Melbourne left Sydney for Auckland on May 9th, with the Auckland portion of the Suez mail, the Australian and Californian mails, 48 through passengers, 18 passengers for Auckland, and a large cargo, but has not yet arrived. The Auckland was not sighted by the } Hero. Wellington, May 21. The Alhambra sails for Lyttelton at J eight to-night.
