Christchurch, May 16. The Superintendent has personally laid papers on the table of the House, instead, of sending them through his Executive. A motion regretting the adoption of such an unusual course was shelved after a warm debate. The Executive pleaded that they could not work harmoniously with the Superintendent, and challenged his resignation, but he refueed. A small piece of laud in the city sold for a sum equal to L 16,800 an acre. The Steele-Ho ward, troupe have been moderately successful here. A petition is being signed in favor of the dissolution of the Council, with a view to ascertaining whether the Superintendent or the Council possesses the confidence of the constituency. Wellington, May 16. The Cadet firing resulted as follows : — Slight, Wellington ; Bird, Nelson ; Lynch, Auckland ; Cook, Hutt ; Maxton, Wellington. Blenheim, May 16. Nehcmiah M'Rae was drowned yesterday. Napier, May 16. In the District Court to-day, Mr Bell obtained a verdict of L2OO damages against the Victoria Fire and Life Insurance Co.
