The number of wrecks., reported -at Lloyd's for the present year, to date of February 17, amounted to 290. The Freak, from Sydney, has been totally lost . j The China, from Adelaide . to London, anchored in the Downs February 13, with mainyard carried away. She arrived in London on February 15. The Thames, from London for Wellington (N.Z.), on leaving Wey month,' Ffeb. 6, got near the shore and took the assistance of a steam tug to tow her to sea. The Damascus, from London for Sydney, put in Dartmouth, January 28, with steering apparatus out of order. She sailed for her destination February, 5. ■ ? A vessel named Marie Francois Vas capsised in the harbor of Brest, on the 23rd February, and twenty-two passengers were drowned. The Canard steamship Parthia, bound from Liverpool to Boston/ came into collision with two Spanish steamers, and sunk one of them. No loss of life is reported. , The only packages recently recovered from the steamship Rangoon, for Australia, wrecked, have been some eight or ten parcels, containing chiefly cotton goods, but all rendered quite valueless by sea water. -The P. and 0. Company have stayed further operations. The Talavera, from Newcastle for San position December 28, headed off shore with her anchors holding her. The decks and some of the planks about the hull had started. The Firdar, at San Francisco January 18, from Newcastle (N.S.W.), carried away maintopmast, &c., on August 18, in 48 S., 64 W., during a heavy westerly squall ; put into Monte Video September 4, and sailed thence October 6 ; off Gape Home experienced heavy gales from N. W. to S. W. for fourteen days ; shipped a heavy sea, which stove and carried away long-boat. . The Madura, from Ljusne for Melbourne, put in Southampton November 2 for repairs, discharged her cargo of deals, was re-coppered in dock, received sundry repairs, took in her cargo again, and proceeded February 39 for Melbourne. On February 12, a collision occurred off Dungeness Point between the Bailing ship Dhoflerab, from London for Adelaide, and the screw steamer Electro, from London for Lisbon. The Electra, when struck by the Dhollerah, which had only parted company from her about half an hour previously, was steaming about half-speed, and she sank in about four minutes from the occurrence. Nine of the crew and four passengers from the Electra and six from the Dhollerah were landed at Dover on February If by the lugger Vesper. With one exception they proceeded to the Sailors' Home. One seaman was so severely injured as to necessitate his removal to the Seamen's Hospital. Captain Bruce, of the Electra (a), got on board the Dhollerah with a number of his crew, twenty-four of whom, in all, were saved and five missing. The latter vessel was towed back to Gravesend.
