BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual meeting <of the Borough Council was held at the Town Hall, last night. All the members were present — the Mayor being in the chair. The. minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. An application was made by MrPerotti for repayment of the cost of repairing the footpath in Boundary street, after having been damaged by the late flood. It was referred to the Finance Committee. Measra^ Nichol and Girdwood applied for the immediate formation of Chapel street, and offered to. take in repayment one-third on the total cost on the Council's bill. The Town Clerk was instructed to advertise for tenders for the wprk upon the guarantee of the residents being received. • A telegram was read from the office of the Colonial Secretary, stating that the amount for the protective works would be ready for payment whenever the certified vouchers were received. — Received. A letter was read from Mr George ; SimhTtiiis 'offering to "supply the planking, ' I if Mackay street would be tilled up to' the line of. The following tender was opened for the works required for the completion of Boundary street— John Fullarton, L 125. There was no other tender, and it was rejected,- the -Town Surveyor receiving instructions to invite tenders for the work, and to furnish quantities to contractors. There was only one tenders for the construction of Puketake and Alexander streets, viz., at Lll 5s per chain, which was rejected as being too nigh/- . . '■''■■ The Council then adjourned.
