NEW RIVER DISTRICT.

(from our own correspondent.) April 17. Most favorable reports continue to come from the .yjpper part of the New River. Some of the claims are spoken of as being above the common average generally to be met with in that district. In consequence of affairs being in such a prosperous condition there, business in German Gullyis thriving, and fresh hotels being opened. The road from G firman Gully to Maori Creek i 3 not yet commenced, although the County Council passed a motion to the effect that it was to be consti ucted. Whoever is to blame for this negligence must be ignorant how much it is required, and the dangers that beset the present route. Ifc is to be hoped thac no further loss of time will occur before it is commenced, as delays are dangerous, more particularly so where human life is at stake. At Paterson's and Wood's Creek, the Morning Star and the New River Gold Mining Companies are doing very well, as also are some of the ordinary, claims. The Old^ Independent has again revived, and is giving general satisfaction. Lancashire Gully is turning out astonishingly well. Money here is plentiful, and well' distributed, all the men having plenty of spare cash. A share in one of the claims wns sold a few days since for LI 20 casli. Mining at Cockabulla is also looking up, some new ground being opened up in the main creek, and several parties are doing well. Degnan and Co., who possess a magnificent race, with a. never-failing supply of water, are in splendid working order, and have some promising prospects before them. Berger and Co., who also have a large water-race, are still working with very satisfactory results. About a month since sanguine hopes were entertained that the old Eight-mile lead had again been picked up at the Niagara Terrace. Some gold being struck there, consequently several claims were taken up and long tunnels commenced, but the gold only proved a patch, and all were doomed to disappointment. Mining round Clifton is very quiet, whilst at Maori Creek a few claims are still at work. ; During the pasb forfciiight^Mr Green's enterprise in erecting another bridge over the New River has been much appreciated. Had it not been for this, traffic would have been suspended several days Divine service continues to be held at Marsden the (irst and second Sundays in each month by the Rev. Mr M'lntoshaud the Rev. J. Taylor, both of whom are highly esteemed by the congregation for their beautiful discourses. A Sunday School is much required, and several parties are willing to volunteer ' their aid when once commenced;
