THE DUNEDIN RACES.

The Dunedin race meeting being, now concluded, the performances of the Canterbury horses are thus noticed by the Lyttelton Times .'—"The'string'that went down comprised Mr Studholrae's r Knottingley : and Flying Fish ; . Mr Griffith's Gossip and Defamation j Mr Webb's Medora and . Taffrail ; • Mr Prince*.- Sir Tatton, and : : Mr < Douglas's Adonis.; The publication of the weights threw a damper upon these owners from the first, '.md we may say upon Canterbury turfiteji generally, for there could be no posaible doubt that all the horses were overweighted! The result fully bore out anticipations, in this direction, for little or nothing has been brought back by the enterprising owners, who, with their horses, attended the meet. Flying Fish ran a good horse throughout all his, engagements, but did not score a single win, neither did his stable companion Knbttingley, though so far as the latter is concerned, the want of success was due more to inferior form than anythingelse. The fact is that the old horse has ' gone home,' and we should think that he will not be seen on a racecourse again. Both Flying Fish and' Knottingley are on their way overland to their owner's station at Waimate. Neither of Mr Griffith's horses scored a win, though both of them ran well in every event they were entered foiy They are now on the way overland to Timaru, where it is to be hoped Mr Griffith will have better fortune. After leaving Timaru they will come on to the Ashburton races, and will arrive in Christchurch in time to take part in the races which are likely to be arranged for the .Queen's birthday. Mr Webb sold Medora: to Mr Pritchard for LllO, previous to the commencement of the races, and she came in 'first for both the hurdle races--L4O and £80 re-spectively^-though she %as - disqualified for the first, in; conaequence of going round the first hurdle instead of jumping; it. Taffrail won the Selling Race of 6*o soys, and ; was sold for .132. Sir Tatton did not land anything for his owner, but was sold for HOO. Adonis won the Maiden Plate, and is on the way home. ; '. ; .;,...
