Mr Steele's eh g Stockman, 9st 41bs ... 1 Mr Profit's b m Task, 9st 91bs ... . .... 2 Five horses started, Waiho, Toby, and-, Victor running besides those placed. - Stockman took the lead in the first round, closely followed by Task, who evidently had not yet recovered the effects of her exertions in the previous race, sufficient time not having been allowed' between the two races. Stockman had the race to himself, and was manifestly held in so as not to run too far away from the game little mare, who, at the close, came in a good second. The second heat was a mere repetition of the first. ;-. ; : '■ QOLMTELDS HANDICAP, of 40 SOYS J two miles j open to all horses. . . . Mr Hale's b g Black Eagle, Bst 121bs ... 1 Mr Harris's eh in. Lacenfeed ..... -:.. 2 Four horses were entered for this race, the race of the day, but Flying Jib having been scratched, it was feared that there would be no race, as the owner; of Lacenfeed required LlO to run so as to make up the race. , The time given by the stewards for a decision to be arrived amongst the owners had just expired when differences were made up, and the rider of Lacenfeed came to the scales. Although this: was looked to as the great event of the day, there is little to be said about it. '-Evidently the race was fixed before it was run. Black Eagle took the lead at the start and won at his ease, Misfortune keeping close on the quarters of Lacenfeed. in case of any accident occurring to Black Eagle, when she would have been pushed ahead to take the winning place from Lacenfeed.
