THE NEW GUINEA EXPEDITION.

A telegram from Cardwell, Queensland, gives the following particulars of the fate of the New Guinea Expedition :-r-

, H.M.S. Basilisk, Captain Moresby, has returned from the search for survivors of the New Guinea" Expealtidn^ wrecked in tho brig Maria. Eight men belonging to one of the missitig rafts' have been found. Their names are— Thoma3 Ingham, Peter Haydon; Wm. Forster; R6berfc'*PKillips, Thonras Smith, Charles Coyle, Edward Siddall. It appears that when nearing the coast the raft capsized several times, - and five of the men were washed off at once. Several diedj lifter landing 'from exhaustion and extreme prostration. The survivors met vith kindly treatmentffom the blacks, which was the means of saving their lives. Upon searching further, the man-of-war's boats found' the remains of ~ the second raft a few. miles further north. There were several dead bodies strewn along the shore., Some of the unfortunates had evidently died from exhaustion, but other had been murdered by the blacks. No one was found alive, , but hopes are entertained that some of those from the second raft are still livingjand in the bush with the blacks. This hope has induced Captain Moresby to leave a boat's crew here for the purpose of cooperating with the native police. The rescued men are recovering rapidly.
