GREY VALLEY TRAMWAY COMPANY The following is the text of the petition presented to the County. Council by the Trustees of the Grey valley Tramway scheme : — To the County Council of Westland. The petition of the Directors and Shareholders of the Grey Valley Tramway ' Co. (limited), respectfully sheweth : 1. That your petitioners, impressed with the want of road communication between the town of Greymouth and the Grey Valley and Arnold districts, did, in the month of January, 3871, decide to form themselves into a Company, and subscribe the necessary capital to form a road and tramway from Greyraouth to the Arnold, conditionally on their obtaining the necessary rights and protection. 2. That they did on the 20th day of Jauuary, 1871, write to the Chairman of the County Council, asking for the necessary rights and protection. 3 P That in compliance with the regulations of your honorable Council, as published in. the County Gazette, of the 24th March, 1869, they did publish their application in the County Gazette and the Grey Rivbr Akous for a period of twenty-one days. 4. That at the expiration of twenty-one dayß, your Chairman did decide to grant -the application, and gave your petitioners a y written promise Of protection, conditionally, on their complying with the regulations. 5. That your petitioners did thereon form themselves into a company under the Limited Liability Act, and subscribed the necessary amount to carry out the work. 6.
