The Chairman moved—" That the Council go. into committee to consider the advisability of amending Clause 4 of the Report on Hospitals, passedlin Bession I, 1868, respecting the number and qualification of members to bo elected for the Committees of Management of Hospitals in the County." He said th^t he had some time since received a communication faom the Hokitika Hospital Committee suggesting the removal of the hospital to a site where the people of Hokilika would be induced, by its proximity, .to take a greater interest in its management than at present. He quite agreed with that view, but at the same time he considered that the qualification of persons entitled to vote in the election of members of committee should be altered. At present it was restricted to subscribers of. LI, but he thought it should be extended to subscribers of 55. . Mr- Barff objected to go into s,o important a question at that late hour, The q.b • sence;of the member for Hokitika (Mr Bonar) was also another objection. In that geutlemau's position, in .connection with the hospital, he took great interest in questions relating to the institution, and if anything were passed in his absence on the subject, he would, probably, , put on the order paper a list of resolur tioiis which would ocenpy a considerable time to dispose of. He would move, as an amendment —"That the Council ad-i journ, with the understanding, that the motion before the Council, and the others on the paper have precedence^ on the fol; lowing evening." ' Mr Button seconded tho amendment,, which was carried, and the Council adjourned. ___ Ij_:___1 j_ : ___ ■ '-■ '-■ '■■' :'='■ ■ "
