The consideration of ithe. estimated .expenditure was postponed until the following evening, to be then taken as the first order of the day. j '■; - v '■ ' " ' ■ Mr Robinson, by 'leave, amended his motion to read as follows— " That the Chairman be empowered to call'for tenders for the construction of a road from the Kanieri to Kokotahi ; payment for the aame to be made half in six months, and half in nine months after the completion of tlie work. 4 ' Mrßarffwas as willing as anyone to have the road constructed, but as it would involve a cost of from L6OOO to L7QOO, and it was not known what other urgent works might be required in other districts, he did not think it would be prudent for the Council to commit itself to so large an expenditure. He proposed an amendment, but afterwards withdrew it, and the motion passed without dissent. .
