London, Oct. 1. At this season's wool sales 36,189 bales sold to date. The. market opened Id to l^d per lb in advance. All descriptions since increased to fuly 2d over July rates. Lincoln hogs, dull at 16d ; wethers, 24 ; down ewes, 22; Irish hogs, 25; do wethers, 24. The present consumption promises maintenance of firm rates for the next few months. Flax, a further advance ; Manilla materially assisted. Flax market — 1353 bales realised full rates ; medium, partly cleaned, L 24 to L 26 10s ; good medium, L 2 9; good and fine cleaned, L 32 to L 33 10s. Corn— Since 11th September a fall of 6d to Is per qr. took place, owing to millers having full stocks. Quotations for New Zealand, 625. Much New Zealand wheat, lately arrived, is in bad condition, and only saleable at 45s for cattle food or starch. The cause of damage is supposed to be bad harvesting. Tallow — A fair competition. Sheep, 33s to 435; beef, 36s to 425. Stock market — The gradual improvement of New Zealand stocks has been arrested by heavy parcels brought to market since. Consolidated bonds highly satisfactory. New York. Wool met a good inquiry during the month. The arrivals were 33,322 bales New Zealand, and 84,528 Australian. Fleeces sold at Id to l£d per lb higher. Flax dull ; most of that offered bought in at L 25 to L 27 per ton; only 4oo bales medium and good sold at from L 24 to L 33 10s. Tallow — A good demand, at from L 37 to L 43. Latest Liverpool wheat quotation, 13s.
