The publican then laid an information against the cabman for procuring drink to aid in commission of an offence, and the cabman was fined L 5. Wellington, October 5. Block, the alleged fradulent insolvent from Tasmania, arrived on Friday, under charge of Sergeant Monaghan. He has been identified by Detective Propstring of Tasmania. Timaru, October 5. The first sod of the Timuka railway was turned by the Mayoress to-day. A large number of Volunteers were present, and they, with the Friendly Society, marched in procession. Sports were held in the afternoon. Dunedin, October 6. The Southern Escort brought down 32000z of gold. The Oity Corporation has agreed to borrow LJ 0,000 on their rates. Wellington, October 5. The Alhambra has sailed for Nelson.
