Fifteen thousand ounces of South Australian gold as a consignment by the last home mail seems but a little parcel as compared to the consignment of between 80,000 and 90,000 which the Geelong took from Victoria this trip. Fifteen thousand ounces of the precieus metal means, however, to the South Australians that they too have 'their gold fields, and that it is quite within the bounds of possibility that as rich deposits may be discovered as any that have been developed in Victoria and the other Colonies. There was a time when it was positively asserted by the savans that gold was not to be found in South Australia. Experience has proved, however, that the mineral is distributed throughout the whole length and breadth of the continent, and the South Australians may possibly possess in their far northern territory an Eldorado whose wealth, when settlement has extended thus far, may equal anything' that has yet been discovered in this country. A shipment of fifteen thousand ounces of South Australian gold is, under any circumstances, not a bad beginning for our neighbors.
