GENERAL NEWS.
The Hon. Mr Yogel was among the guests at the Lord Mayor's Banquet on June 7. No arrangements ate concluded with Mr Brogden for the construction of railways in New Zealand. Satisfactory arrangements are said to have been made as to the presence of H.M. war ships on the coasts of the Colony. A letter signed "J. V.," appears in the Times, of June 12th, as to the effect of the transportation of French Communists to New Caledonia upon the Fijian group, and the consequent risk to the Australian colonies.
