Schedule I.

Agreements, or, minute, or memorandum of agreement, under hand only where the matter shall be of the value of L2O or upwards —ls. Bills of exchange (inland), for every LSO, or fractional part of L 50 —Is. Bills of exchange drawn out of the Colony, but endorsed or negotiated within the Colony, the same duty as on an inland bill of the same amount and tenor. Foreign bills, if drawn singly or otherwise than in a set of two or more, the same duty as on an inland bill. If drawn in sets of two, Gd for every LSO, or fractional part of LSO. Promissory notes (other than payable ou demand) not exceeding L 25 —6 d; exceeding L 25, aud not exceeding LSU —Is; and so on, Is for every LSO, and fractional part of LSO. Promissory notes (payuble ou demand) issued by any bank in New Zealand are exempt from these duties, banks being otherwise chargeable.. Bills of lading, or receipt in lieu thereof, from the master, mate, ot agent of any vessel, for goods carried beyond i the Colony —ls. Conveyances of any kind, except transfer expressly provided for by the Act, for every LSO, or fractional part of LSO, of the purchase money —os. Crown grants aud certificates of title granted under the hand of the E-egistrar-General, pursuant to "The Land Registry Act, 1860," are exempt from these duties. Deeds, or instruments of any kind whatever, not otherwise charged in this chedule —los.

Exemptions from the preceding duties : All instruments relating to the services of apprentices, clerks or servants ; all bonds of mortgages, whether affecting real or personal estate, bills of sale by way of mortgage, aud all transfers, agreement"?, re-leases, re-coaveyances, and discharges thereof; all preferable liens under " The Wool and Oil Securities Act, 1858 /' all customs bonds ; all administration bonds ; all bonds on appointment of special bailiffs. Drafts or cheques payable on demand, of otherwise — Id. Lease, or agreement for a lease, for every LSO, or fractional part of LSO, for the yearly rent — 2s Gd, Lease of waste lands under the provisions of any Waste Lands Act or Gold Fields Act are exempt from these duties, Policy of insurance of ships or cargo for any period not exceeding three months — 2s 6d ; all other marine policies, for every LI 00, or fractional part of LlOO—ls. Promissory notes, payable to the bearer on demand, issued by any Bank or Bankiug Company, at the rate of L 2 for every LI 00 of the average animal amount in circulation, as' certified under "The Bankers Returns Act, 1858." Eeceipts for any sum of L 5 or upwards—ld. • Exemptions. — Receipts for money pad to or for her Majesty; receipts endorsed on any duly stamped instrument acknowledging the receipt of the consideration money therein expressed ; acknowledgment given for any money deposited in any Bank; receipts for any money paid into land, building, and - provident societies. Transfers, except by way of mortgage, of any run or statiou held under lease from the Crown, or ot any iuterest therein, for every LIOO, or fractional part of LIOO, of value assessed, as provided in the Act — 10s. Transfer of shares or stock of any coi-poration, company, or society in New Zealand, where the purchase money shall not exceed L 20 — Is; exceeding L2O, and not exceeding L 50 — 2s Gd; and so on, 2s 6d for every LSO, or fractional part of LSO.
