THE PAROA ROAD BOARD.
[to the editor.] Sir, — When Mr Harrison was on his electioneering tour, he told the public that the columns of the Grey River Argtjs were open for discussion. Now that I have a few observations to make in that line, I beg your permission to do so. To begin, I must state that I am an old resident of this neighborhood, and, of course, a constant reader of your paper. In one of your issues of last week, I noticed a letter in reference to the Paroa Road Board, signed "A. B." in which it was stated that Mr Colton's motion of thanks on behalf of Mr Hurst for services as honorary secretary, found an "able seconder " in Mr Michael Dowling. Now, sir, do the words "able seconder" imply that Mr Dowling stood up off his chair and thought to force the motion on the Board by a speech. If so, it is a false statement, as he only laughingly said, " I second that." I was in the Board-room at the time, and can vouch for this asser tion. Indeed, I will say that the members were conducting the business at the time in a most unbecoming manner, the majority of them speaking together, and Mr Dowling crying out in a very discordant voice, "Chair, chair, chair !"
Sir, as I am not ashamed of my name, and as I intend, with your pleasure, to trespass again on your columns, I will be brief, and await the result of the query. I am, &c,
John Power, Miner. South Beach, April 14, 1871.
