A farmer and his wife, named Canard, who are reported io have been continually quarrelling, had a final contention on Thursday, 16th March. The woman having procured some laudanum, took it home with her and drank it in the atablg. Having told her children of what she had done, they informed a neighbor named Callinan, who gaye the woman an emetic. She lost the use of her limbs, but was otherwise conscious until death supervened' on Wednesday morning.
Two nuggets, one Boz sdwt, and the other weighing loz 15dwt, were found on Tuesday, ncr the junction of Silver and Spring Creeks, Beechworth. *' These little strangers," says the Advertiser, "are regarded with a good deal of interest, owing to the infrequency with which nuggetg are met' with on the Ovens gold fields. The precious metal got in the neighborhood of Beechworth and other parts of the district, although of excellent quality, is generally very fine, anil the few nuggets that have been found since these fields were opened have been re r garded qa great curiosities,"
