ARRIVAL OF THE GOTHENBURG
AT THF BLUFF.

Bluff, Mar. 17.
The Gothenburg left Hobson's Bay at 2.30 p.m. on the 11th of March. Experienced easterly winds across, and arrived at Bluff Harbor at 8 a.m. on the 17th.
Passengers — Messrs Legge, Gordon, Morris, Misses Clark (three).
Cargo — For Dimedin, 96 tons j for Lyttelton, 30 tons ; for Wellington, 30 tons ; for Nelson, 30 tons.
Melbourne, Mar. 11 .
On the 4fch, Nimblefoot won the two principal races at Geelong, and the Australian Cup at Melbourne yesterday.
There have been several arrivals of sugar ships, but the market, however, remains firm.
Audley Coote has gone to Tasmania to negotiate with the Government for railway extension ; he has been in communication with Dyer with reference to his suspension of the railway.
On the arrival of the Hero at Sydney, from Auckland, Tookey shares (Thames gold field) became excited, but buyers declined to give more than L 5 30s. The market is now steady at L 5 30s to L 5 325. At L 6 there are no buyers. The Intercolonial Cricket Match commenced yesterday. The Victorians in their first innings scored one hundred and ninety-eight; Sydney, two hundred. Victorian second innings, four wickets for ninety runs. The schooner Elderslie, from Java, arrived at Sydney, having encountered a hurricane and lost bulwarks and boats, Sydney, March 10. The Government have determined to release Lorando Jones on his own personal bond for good behaviour for twelve months. Markets quiet. Flour, trade sales Ll4 to Ll4 10s ; wheat, 6s ; oats firm at 3s 7d so 3s Bd, not much offering. Maize wanted at 4s 9d to 4s lOd. Kerosene is 1 still in good demand, holders demanding '< full, prices at last week's quotations. New Zealand flax rope has beeu tarred and tested, and is coming into favor ; sales L43to L 56. Flax is worth Ll6 to L2O per ton. There are no buyers for New Zealand wheat at over 5s 6d to 5s 7d per bushel. : ; ..
Macklin, tKj&-fcewer, has been! remanded on three different charges of forgery. Bail was^Rt the first time
obtained at L 250, but since he has been re-arrested, and bail fixed at LIOOO each. Wrixon (Solicitor-General) and Hannah are returned unopposed.
For the remaining thirty-five seats, one hundred and twelve candidates are nominated.
