"One of the finest buildings in the Western district," saya the Geelong Advertiser, "has recently been erected at Birregurra; this is the new Church of England, which was completed about a fortnight ago."
" A couple of miners," says the Gvpps Land Mercury, " who have just returned from the reported rush to Nicholson Creek, on the Boisdale run, informs us that the place is a delusion and a snare, and that so far from payable gold having been obtained, all that has been got as yet is only one speck. They also say that instead of sixty men being upon the ground only four had been at work, and that those, owing to ill success, had been compelled to give up. "At the meeting of the Golden Pyke clairiiholders." says the B&ndigo Advertiser, "Mr Helm mentioned that the ■walcr level <>t the quartz district of Bendigo whs lowering every year. On the Comet line, on which no engine, so far as is known, is working, the water during the past 11 years has been reduced from 120 ft to 235 ft. The operation of so many engines to the south of the Bendigo Creek appears to be producing this effect."
