OTAGO.

We take the following items of mining intelligence from the Cromwell Argus ; — The Cromwell Quartz Mining Company cleaned up on Saturday last, and the result obtained was 2600z of retorted gold, which was lodged in the Bank of New South Wales. We are glad to be enabled to report that work has been resumed at the Royal Standard Company's battery, Carrick Range. An arrangement has been effected with the All Nations Company for supplying water for the engine and tables — thejrates agreed on being, we are informed, L 5 a week while water is scarce, and L 3 when it becomes more plentiful. The stampers were set in motion last Thursday on a parcel of stone from the Star of the East Reef j and it is to be hoped that nothing will again occur to necessitate further stoppage of the pioneer crushing machine in the Bannockburh district. — The reef recently discovered at Thompson's Creek, between Bendigo Gully and Drybread, by Inkster and party, is being worked by the prospectors, who anticipate very favorable results from their trial crushing. They are at present engaged in packing quartz from their claim to the Cromwell Company's battery, a distance of about ten miles ; and it is reported that the stone which has been got out bears every indication of being highly auriferous. — Sinking and driving operations continue to be carried on vigorously at the various quartz reefs on the Carrick Range ; and now that the Royal Standard battery is again in motion, the shareholders in all the claims will no doubt use every exertion to keep the machine fully supplied with material for crushing.
