IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR READERS.
From and after to-day the Grey River Argus will be published daily, Sundays escepted. Commenced as a bi-weekly on the 15th of jtfovember, 1865; extended to a tri-weekly on the 15th of May, 1866, this journal has endeavored to keep pace with the growing fortunes of the district in which it is established.. The step taken to-day would have been anticipated by several months bnt for the unfortunate fire in this town, by which the proprietors .of the Argus, in common with other sufferers, sustained a heavy loss. The encourage ment which they have all along received at the hands of the public has been so consistent that in spite of the additional cost and responsibility which the issue of a daily paper involves, they are encouraged to incur both under the conviction that the importance of the town and district demands additional attention to its affairs and that the public will fully appreciate and support the efforts of the proprietors in this direction. To persons outside the pale of the newspaper profession the transition from a tri-weekly to a daily publication may appear an easy matter, and a change comparatively slight as regards the cost involved. But it is not only a very expensive process, but it is one that entails upon every person connected with the machinery by which it is accomplished, the expenditure of an enormous amount of additional time and labor. We do not hesitate to make the sacrifices. In its old form, +he Grey River Argus has achieved, and, we venture with all modesty to say, has deserved a good re_ putation amongst its Colonial contemporaries, and the same line of conduct that has contributed to this result wil be steadfastly pursued. The extension of the operations of this journal, occasioned by the change we announce to-day, will necessarily require extended means for conducting those operations, and we are happy to be able to state that we have satisfactorily secured them. The editorial staff has received the acquisition of Mr Harrison, who, from the. commencement of the Grey River Argus, and for several .subsequent years, was intimately associated m its management.
In conclusion, we can only say that it will be our aim to improve the position which the port and district of the Grey have, already achieved amongst the settlements of New Zealand, and to conserve and extend their interests. In these efforts we hope to receive the hearty support of our constituents. We are entirely in their hands, and we have the fullest confidence that the additional favors we seek from them will be forthcoming. In making this change we have also thought it advisable, so as to enable all classes of the community to enjoy the benefits of a daily morning journal, to reduce the price to Threepence per copy, Eighteenpence per week, or ' .£1 ocr quarter delivered in town, and £1 5s by post. Mr J. B. Roache, stationer, has been appointed the Sole Agent in Greymouth, and subscribers' names will be received by him or at the Office of the Paper. It is particularly requested by the Proprietors that all instances of neglect in the delivering of the paper will be immediately brought uuder their notice } so that an immediate remedy may be applied. Arrangements are now being made for the appointment of agents throughout the district and country, and as a largely increased circulation is confidently anticipated, advertisers will see it to be to their immediate interest to take advantage of the ', additional publicity which their announcements must receive by these changes. Greymouth, Feb. 4, 1871.
