Arrived : Hero, Chanticleer, left Hobarfc Town for Oamaru. Sailed : From Newcastle, Bengal for Dunedin. Floods gradually subsided on Tuesday, except Exchuca, which remained flooded until Thursday. Racecourse very sloppy, and rain again fell on the Derby day. Seven thousand people^were present, including the Dtike of Edinburgh and the Governor. The following are the results : — Melbourne Stakes— Tim. Whiffler, 1 ; Topper, 2. Hotham Handicap — Nimblefoot, 1 ; Mischief, 2. Derby — Florence, 1 ; Pyrrhus, 2. Essendon Stakes— Trump Card, 1 ; Croydon 2. Footscay Plate— The Dane, 1 ; Koweerap, 2. In the Derby, Tait declared to win with Pyrrhus, but Florence got so far ahead that the rider was unable apparently to hold her, and she won, to the great chagrin of many bookmakers. Trump Card's victory over Croydon makes him a hot favorite for the Cup, but the weather is now fine, and the course is likely to be in better order than it was on Saturday. In the Assembly, the address in reply was carried without a division. The Session is likely to be unimportant and short. At the National Bank meeting, Sir Francis Murphy, the chairman, moved the adoption of the report, and regretted that no dividend could bo declared, through further losses, which arose from the late manager not disclosing the true state of several accounts before the last meeting. Captain Coffey moved that the directors resign, with the view of appointing a new board. The Directors took the liint, and resigned. The meeting adjourned until December, to allow the new board to be elected. Their acknowledged losses amount to one hundred and thirty thousand pounds during six months, being over one-fifth of tho paidup capital. Severe leaders appeared in the press about the management. Miss Humphrey has obtained a thousand pounds damages in a breach of promise case against Kelly, a livery stablekeeper, who intends moving for a new trial. Harris, the defaulting shire secretary, pleaded guilty, and has been sentenced to three years. The intercolonial news is of little importance. Governor Diicane, of Tasmania, arrived here, en route for Adelaide, on a visit to Governor Fergiisson. Parkes reelected for Kaima. Todd, South Australian superintendent of telegraphs, reports the line to Port Darwin progressing favorably, and certain to be finished by the end of next year. The Duke of Edinburgh leaves Melbourne this week for Sydney, and sails thence shortly.
