[from our own correspondents.] DITNEDIN, NOV. 5. John Griffen, merchant-, has called <a meeting of his creditors. Liabilities, Lll,ooo. He offers a composition of 4s in the pound. Auckland, via Napier, Nov. 4. Mr Yogel addressed a crowded meeting at the Mechanic's Institute, on Tuesday evening. He explained the Government policy for the pacificatiou of the Natives, the San Francisco route, Insurance Act, reduction of gold duties, payment of jurora, harbor boards, Torrens's Act, capitation grant, Otago and Southland Union Bill, and Immigration and Public Works Bills. He spoke for two hours, and received a vote of confidence. The debate on Mr Busby's claim is to be renewed to-night. The Executive expected to be turned out. The Virago is expected at Auckland on the 18th, and the Galatea and Clio at the end of the month. Mr Swan retires from politics, excepting his Provincial billet. Mr Gillies will address the electors next Monday. Mr Swanson's requisition is signed by 250 votes. Mr Clarke has retired from the contest, in fayor of Mr Creighton. Commercial. — Binney sold yesterday — Wheat at 3s lid to 5s lid ; flour 12s to 17s 6d. The Coromandel gold fields are giving tnagnificient returns. The steamer Napier was successfully launched this afternoon.
