THE IRISH PATRIOTIC FUND.
[to the editor.] Sir —ln a reply to a letter which appeared in your columns on this subject the other day, signed by three miners on the South Beach, I wish to say a few words in answer to the charges brought against Messrs Colton and Dowling. I was treasurer of the fund at the time, and jras instructed by the Committee to send the money away with as little expense as possible, and also to pay to each collector LI for his services. 1 deny that Colton got on the spree in town, for he was in my company all the <ime, and it is not likely that I would keep company with, a drunken man when I had nearly L2OO of public money in my pocket. I am, &c, M, Fbehax. National Hotel, Greymouth, October 14,1870. [Any further correspondence on this subject must be carried on in our adver^ tising columns. —Ed.]
